A Taste Of France.

It’s taken me a while to find a band that I can fall in love with quite as much as Orphans and Vandals. This is the kind of music you can expect to soundtrack your life if you were living in some bohemian, French art film, [though you could be in the backseat of a car and this would still sound as good, if a little less exciting.]

The band are reminiscent of Beirut, but emphasis in the songs has been put on storytelling. Front man Al Joshua’s haunting vocals narrate beautifully amongst a backdrop of instruments; including the glockenspiel, viola, piano and “musical saw” played by the other 4 multi instrumentalists. Each song builds beautifully and you find yourself hooked on individual tales which become personal to the listener as if they were playing to you alone and letting you in on their wicked secrets.

You can catch the band at the Laissez Faire Club at the Old Blue Last in London with F.Lunaire and The Collectable Few on May 5th, with Primary 1’s Andy DJing the night.

The band have also released Terra Firma/Christopher on Limited Edition 10" vinyl that can be bought from their webpage.
